Abstract
Holoprosencephaly is a developmental field defect in which impaired cleavage of the embryonic forebrain is the basic feature. The prosencephalon fails to cleavage sagittaly into cerebral hemispheres, transversely into telencephalon and
diencephalon, and
horizontally into olfactory and optic bulbs. The condition can be graded according to the degree of severity as alobar, semilobar, or lobar holoposencephaly. Various facial anomalies are closely associated with this entity. The outlook for alobar
holoprosencephaly is uniformly poor. Antenatal diagnosis is important for early termination of pregnancy. We report two cases of alobar holoprosencephaly with their sonographic and autopsy findings.
